Tricky draws for Ghana and Nigeria in 2018 AWCON Tournament

Ghana will open the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) journey with North African giants Algeria on 17th November, at the Accra Sports  Stadium, as the pair have been drawn in Group A alongside Mali and Cameroon.

Defending champions Nigeria would slug it out with South Africa in Cape Coast on 18th November, 2018.

Ghana is hosting the 11th biennial showpiece for the first time, would also face stiff competition from Mali on 20th November before the final Group A game with Cameroon, as they would seek to make it out of the Group stages.

Ghana, has never won the women’s championship having been losing finalists on three occasions in 1998, 2002 and 2006 and has vowed to make it count on home soil, but would need to beat off competitions from Algeria and Mali, to move out of the group stages.

Defending champions Nigeria, who have won the tournament a record ten times, are in Group B alongside South Africa, Kenya and Zambia would be based in Cape Coast.

Kenya, who earned their place in the competition after Equatorial Guinea were disqualified for fielding six ineligible players in final qualifying round, would open their AFCON journey with Zambia on 18th November, 2018.

The tournament, which would see the top three finalist representing Africa for the World Cup in France 2019 is slated for Accra and Cape Coast and would run from 17th November to 1st December, 2018.
