Defender Jonathan Mensah says players report to play for the Black Stars because they love the country.

The Columbus Crew center back made those comments in reference to the notion that they play for money and not for the love of the country.

However, the FIFA U-20 World Cup winner disclosed that the players have deep love for Ghana, and it is the main reason why they make sure they report when their services is needed.

“The first thing is to love Ghana because we are Ghanaians,” Mensah, who plays club football for Columbus Crew in the USA told Citi TV.

“When you’re called upon to play, either you love the nation or you love something else. What makes fans think we don’t love the team?.

“Because If I don’t love the team I don’t need to come waste my time, the nation’s time and the coach’s time as well.

“If you don’t love it, don’t come around it but if you do then you are all in.”
