The Emotional Intelligence Africa Summit 2023 kicked off in style at the Centre for National Culture, in Cape Coast. Christened: “Rediscovering the Ghanaian Spirit,” the event was all about rekindling the values that make us who we are.
In a keynote address, the 2020 running mate to Former President Mahama, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, explained to the audience, predominantly young and vibrant, that emotional intelligence is the cornerstone of a harmonious, prosperous society.
“It’s all about putting the group above the individual and understanding that our actions today shape the legacy we leave for tomorrow” she said.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang passionately urged the youth to embrace Ghana’s rich history and cultural heritage while being open to learning from others. She cautioned against blind imitation and unexamined practices that can erode the core of our identity.
Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang also painted a vision of a Ghana where cathedrals are built in the hearts of its people —”cathedrals of hope, honesty, and trust, with no room for dishonesty or hypocrisy. This is the kind of Ghana we all want to be part of” Professor Opoku-Agyemang said.
She posed tough questions about the legacies we are leaving for future generations. She urged the youth to rise above challenges, emphasizing that giving up is not an option. “True Ghanaians, are far from perfect but exemplify policies rooted in emotional intelligence”.
She encouraged the audience to delve into their true history, found in their names, ethnic roots, and traditions. Learning about our heritage, she stressed, is key to realizing the practical outcomes of emotional intelligence.
The summit concluded with a captivating folktale that underscored the importance of choosing our leaders wisely.
