The Taliban’s top political leaders have arrived back in Afghanistan from Qatar where many were in exile.

Taliban militants gave their first press conference on Tuesday, two days after completing their takeover of Afghanistan.

Women will enjoy rights according to Sharia [Islamic law], spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid says.

The White House says the Taliban have promised civilians can travel safely to Kabul airport.

Reports say Afghans have been beaten by Taliban guards on their way there.

Local reports say the streets of Kabul are quiet. Militants are out in force manning checkpoints across the city.
