The Director of the Meteorological Agency, Felicity Ahafianyo, says the heavy rains in the Northern part of the country would continue for some time before it subsides.

She said even from Wednesday, September 9, to Sunday, September 13, there would be further heavy rains for which reason residents in low lying areas must relocate to avoid further deaths and destruction.

Miss Ahafianyo said for the Southern sector, the minor rains will soon set in between now and November. She cautioned Ghanaians to keep their drains empty of refuse to avoid similar disasters.

She also appealed to the public to support and assist GNET as well as the telcos to ensure the smooth operations of the Agency.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Manager of NADMO, George Ayisi says the organisation has dispatched relief items to the victims while efforts are being made to address the situation permanently. He told GBC’s George Ankrah that NADMO and Government sympathises with the victims who lost lives and items and would address the menace as soon as possible.

Mr. Ayisi called for a change in attitude in the type of building the people put up and asked the indigenes to heed caution when they are asked to relocate.
