Civil Society Groups in the Northern Region have added their voice to calls for the amendment of the Constitution to address the winner takes all syndrome.
The CSOs believe the amendment should also consider freeing key state institutions such as the police service, electoral commission, Attorney General’s Department and the state media from executive control to enable them to deliver on their mandate.
Addressing journalists at a media briefing to mark International Day of Democracy, Governance Analyst and Spokesperson for the CSOs, Philip Gmabi, noted that the over concentration of power in the hands of the President is detrimental to the principles of good governance.
On his part, Executive Director of NORSAAC, Mohammed Awal, said the winner takes all syndrome is only a symptom of too much executive power.
