The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has paid the delayed allowances of education sector workers, alongside their December 2025 salaries.

Although the department had earlier indicated that the outstanding allowances would be paid together with December salaries on Wednesday, it confirmed to Graphic Online yesterday that the payments were actually effected last Tuesday.

In a statement issued last month, the CAGD explained that two categories of education sector allowances, originally scheduled for payment in November 2025, were rescheduled due to a technical hitch.

“To avoid disrupting the payment of November salaries for all Government of Ghana workers, the processing of the affected education sector allowances was temporarily paused,” the department stated.

The CAGD expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to improving payroll efficiency to prevent a recurrence. It also thanked the affected workers for their patience and understanding during the period of the delay.

Background

Last month, the CAGD announced that two categories of education sector allowances would be rescheduled from November 2025 following a technical challenge encountered during the final payroll run.

The department assured affected workers that the issue was being addressed and that the outstanding allowances would be paid together with December 2025 salaries.

According to the CAGD, the decision to pause the processing of the allowances was taken to ensure that the November 2025 salaries of all government of Ghana workers were not delayed.
