Security Analyst and Executive Director for the Centre for Security and Counterterrorism, Emmanuel Kotin has expressed disappointment over the country’s failure to hold its citizens accountable for crimes.
Citing the case of social media influencer, Frederick Kumi famously known as Abu Trica who was arrested for alleged romance scam and money laundering, the Security analyst expressed dissatisfaction over the option to allow the United States to deal with his alleged crime
According to Mr. Kotin who was speaking on GBC’s Focus show on Wednesday, December 24, “we have failed as a country in this regard. We do not have to wait as a sovereign country for other countries to come pursuing our citizens for crimes”.
Mr. Kotin emphasized the need to do all it takes to be respected as a country or stand the risk of being continually disrespected.
He also raised concerns about the investigative bodies and security personnel who paid no heed while Abu Trica flaunted his money around on social media. Kotin further highlighted Abu Trica’s tax obligations, questioning why authorities haven’t investigated his unexplained wealth.
“Abu Trica has been in this country without formal work but kept showcasing a lot of cash on his social media, yet our investigative bodies were not interested in finding out what he did for a living”, he said.
Abu Trica is accused of running an $8 million romance scam targeting elderly Americans, using AI-generated identities to build fake online relationships. He was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, and is facing charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and a forfeiture specification.
The arrest of Abu Trica followed a joint operation with US authorities, who are seeking his extradition. Kotin finds it disturbing that Abu Trica was allegedly mistreated during interrogation, calling for investigative bodies to take action.
