A shocking familicide has gripped the Likpe Abrani community in Oti Region after 23-year-old Innocent Owusu was arrested for the brutal murder of his 59-year-old father, Peter Owusu, on December 30, 2025.
According to the Jasikan District Police, the incident unfolded at the family’s residence in Likpe Abrani, where Owusu allegedly decapitated his father in a gruesome attack. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the act but was swiftly tracked down through intelligence leads to a hideout in the dense Abrani forest, where he was apprehended without resistance.
Police recovered the deceased’s decapitated body and severed head, which have been deposited at Hohoe Government Hospital Morgue for preservation, autopsy, and further forensic examination to determine the motive behind the heinous crime. Innocent Owusu remains in custody at the Jasikan District Police station, cooperating with ongoing investigations as authorities probe potential underlying factors such as family disputes or mental health issues.
The Oti Regional Police Command praised residents of Likpe Abrani for their prompt cooperation, which facilitated the rapid arrest and prevented further danger. “The swift assistance from the community was instrumental,” a police statement noted, while extending deepest condolences to the bereaved family during this period of profound grief.
This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the close-knit community, underscoring rising concerns over violent crimes within households in rural Ghana.
