The Acting Managing Director of the Market, Ernest Afayam, gave the warning in Kumasi at the presentation of items to widows and orphanages.

He therefore cautioned them against reckless handling of anything fire that could jeopardize the durability and safety of the facility and everyone else.

“Let’s be each other’s keeper, do the right thing to protect the Market. Let there be free flow human movement ease congestion for customers. This is our place of business from morning everyday. Let’s own it as our personal property. We all stand to lose in case of any disaster. So let’s do the right thing and correct each other and be vigilant to promptly correct the wrongs so we can continue yo earn our living from here”, he advised the hawkers.

The Acting Managing Director commended the traders and Evangelism team for the assisting the needy in the society during such an occasion as Christmas.

The presentation was organized by the Kumasi City Market Evangelism Team as part of their annual charity to the marginalized and needy in the society.

A total of 120 widows and nine orphanages selected from across the Ashanti region benefited from the benevolence as part of the Christmas festivities.

According to the Evangelism Team, apart from the widows, who made direct requests for support, the orphanages, an increase from the previous four beneficiaries, were all chosen because they are registered with the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development.

The widows received a piece of wax print each.

However, the Orphanages were given assorted items including bags of rice, children’s clothing, beauty products, confectionaries, drinkables, tubers of yam, drinking cups and packs of bottled water in addition to GHC 500  each for transportatiopn.

The Leader of the Kejetia Market Evangelism Team, Nana Akwasi Prempeh, noted that some of the traders and patrons of the market donated the items following appeals by the Evangelism Team, which emphasized the blessings in giving to the needy.

“We believe that there’s more blessings in giving than receiving. So traders in Kejetia here also believe that when they give, definitely, God is going to reward them. And when we talk about blessing, blessing comes in different folds. Not only in monetary terms, but because we share the gospel with them, they also understand the act of giving”, Nana Prempeh explained.

The Founder of the PatiDua Foundation, on behalf of the beneficiary Orphanages, expressed gratitude to the traders for the continuous support.

He said, “for about four years now we’ve been coming here. Every year they make sure they help us to get something home and it’s a great thing for us because not all of us are having the support from people or others.”
