The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with a daylight armed robbery at a jewellery shop at Adabraka in Accra, where GH₵7.5 million was stolen.

The robbery happened on November 2, 2024, when proceeds from a gold transaction were being transported to a bank. Armed men attacked the vehicle in broad daylight and escaped with the money.

According to the Police, the arrest was made through the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police after months of intelligence-led investigations. The suspect, identified as Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata, was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman, where he had gone to seek medical care.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and his accomplices, who were armed with AK-47 assault rifles, intercepted the victim’s vehicle and fired several shots to scare away members of the public. During the attack, the driver of the vehicle was shot and injured. The suspects then took the GH₵7.5 million and fled the scene.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down the other accomplices and recover the stolen money.

The Ghana Police Service has appealed to the public to provide any credible information that could help arrest the remaining suspects. Such information, the Police say, should be reported to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
