Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has stated that, the much anticipated 24 hour economy initiative launched by President Mahama several months ago will swing into full gear and be operationalized this year.
According to him, substantial work has already been done. The secretariat has been set up and have briefed Parliament once on the work done so far.
Speaking on Hot Issues on Sunday, January 4, 2026, Ofosu Kwakye explained that, the legal framework has already been considered by cabinet so as and when it is ready to be laid before Parliament, it will be passed into law.
He noted that the most important part is that the secretariat that has been set up already and a budget allocation of GHS110m has been provided to see to the operationalization of the program.
He added that, the program, led by the private sector, needs government systems and incentives to thrive stating that, “unlike the NPP’s “adhoc sloganeering”, this initiative focuses on substantive undertakings so the right manpower has to be put in place and ground rules established”.
The framework was laid out by President Mahama at the launch of the project, what remains now is plugging in with public and private sectors.
