The largest bulk carrier ever to berth in West African waters, MV CBS YEARS, with a capacity of 300,000 DWT, is to call at the Port of Takoradi on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The vessel, scheduled to berth at the port, marks a significant business turning point for Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) in line with its 10 million target for 2026.

The arrival of the vessel is an initiative by GMC in collaboration with Cosco Shipping Lines and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA). It will ultimately increase bulk export shipments through Takoradi Port and, by extension, increase export revenue for GPHA and the country as a whole.

To welcome the vessel’s arrival, GMC sponsored some selected GPHA marine operations staff to China to participate in advanced simulation and berthing exercises, which were structured to mirror the hydrodynamic and navigational protocols for cape-size vessels to ensure controlled, predictable, and safe berthing and cargo loading operations under local command.

A statement issued by GMC and signed by its Deputy Managing Director, Sun Yuanwei, said the historic inauguration and welcome ceremony will bring together senior government officials, industry leaders, international shipping partners, and key stakeholders from across the maritime and logistics sectors to formally mark the achievement and demonstrate their collective commitment to infrastructure development, professional capability, cross-sector collaboration, skills development, and long-term growth of maritime trade.

The statement said GMC is committed to contributing its quota to sustainable national economic growth
