The Member of Parliament for Pusiga in the Upper East Region, Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba, has called for stronger enforcement of policies that promote women’s inclusion in national development.
“We must not forget about women empowerment in the resetting agenda of this government. The 30% public sector quota for women needs full enforcement,” she said.
Speaking at Zekula Festival held in Kulungungu, the MP stressed that women must be given equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully across all sectors of society. She noted that while policies exist, implementation remains a challenge.
“We must be gender sensitive in all appointments in all organizations and in all activities. Are we doing doing that?” she questioned.
Hajia Ayamba highlighted the government’s 30 percent quota for women in the public sector, emphasizing that strict adherence is necessary to empower women and harness their full potential. According to her, inclusive participation is key to sustainable national growth.
She further indicated that the administration of former President John Mahama continues to support initiatives aimed at advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
“The current administration has stressed on it that we must support women. Let us support women living in and outside Kulungungu to have a place in society,” she added.
Addressing members of the Bissa community during the celebration, the MP urged traditional leaders and stakeholders to champion the cause of women’s inclusion at the grassroots level.
The Zekula Festival, which brings together communities to celebrate culture and unity, also served as a platform to promote dialogue on development issues, particularly the role of women in leadership and decision-making.
