The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has given a firm assurance that the price of cement will not increase, calming public speculation about a possible hike in prices of the essential building material.

Speaking when she took her turn during the ‘Government Accountability Series’, the Minister said sustained dialogue has been ongoing between her Ministry and key actors in the cement industry, aimed at strengthening product standards while ensuring price moderation.

She disclosed that she held discussions with industry stakeholders on Monday, January 19, during which emphasis was placed on maintaining affordability alongside improvements in quality.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare pointed out that prevailing economic indicators, especially the current stability of the Ghana cedi against major foreign currencies, offer no basis for any upward adjustment in cement prices.

“The present exchange rate situation does not warrant an increase in prices. For that reason, Ghanaians should be assured that cement prices will remain unchanged,” she stated.

The Minister further indicated that government continues to keep a close watch on activities within the cement market to safeguard consumer interests.

She added that sustaining stability in cement pricing is essential for ongoing housing projects, infrastructure expansion, and broader economic development, reaffirming the government’s resolve to collaborate with manufacturers and distributors to ensure fair market practices.
