The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has issued a strong compliance notice warning jewellery manufacturers, fabricators, and gold refineries operating without valid licences to regularise their operations or face sanctions under the law.
In a statement titled Compliance Notice No. GOLDBOD/2026/01, GoldBod revealed that it has identified several operators in the sector working illegally without authorisation from the Board. The notice reiterates that only duly licensed persons and entities are permitted to engage in gold trading, jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication and gold refining in Ghana, as mandated by law.
GoldBod reminded the public that operating without a valid licence constitutes an offence punishable under Act 1140.
The Board further recalled that in a press statement issued on October 22, 2025, all existing jewellery manufacturers, fabricators and gold refineries were directed to regularise their operations no later than 31st December 2025. With the deadline now passed, GoldBod has announced decisive enforcement action.
“A team of GoldBod Inspectors will be deployed from Monday, February 2, 2026, to ensure that only duly licensed persons engage in jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication and gold refining businesses in Ghana,” the statement said.
As part of the compliance drive, GoldBod also commended companies that have successfully completed the licensing process and have been officially authorised to operate. These include:

- Mahmoud’s Jewellery Limited
- Agyaba Jewellery
- Gold Casting
- Goldlovers GH Limited
- Wappahs Jewellery
- Mahalaxmi Ghana Limited
- Sahara Jewellery Limited Company
The Board emphasized that the exercise is not punitive but aimed at sanitising the sector, protecting consumers, and strengthening regulatory oversight within Ghana’s gold value chain.
GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing all laws and regulations governing the gold trading and jewellery manufacturing industry “in the spirit of accountability and transparency.”
