Jannik Sinner etched his name into tennis history on Sunday May 3, 2026, after producing a ruthless display to overpower Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2 and capture the Mutua Madrid Open crown in Madrid.
The world number one needed just 58 minutes to sweep aside his rival inside the famous Manolo Santana Stadium, where the crowd watched a master at work and a record fall like thunder from the sky.
With the victory, Sinner became the first man in tennis history to win five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles. His golden run began in Paris last November and continued through Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, and now Madrid.
The Italian star was unstoppable. He converted all four break points he earned, never faced a single break point on his own serve, and won 93 percent of points behind his first serve. Every strike of the ball carried power, precision, and purpose.
From the opening game, Sinner attacked like a storm. He raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set, leaving Zverev searching for answers in the dust. In the second set, he broke again for 2-1, tightened his grip on the match, and never looked back.
When the final point was won, Sinner calmly served out to love, but the meaning of the moment was enormous. Another trophy lifted, another chapter written in brilliance.
“I think there is a lot of work behind it,” Sinner said after the match. “A lot of dedication and sacrifice every day. I’m very happy I continued to believe in myself.”
The victory also extended Sinner’s dominance over Zverev, giving him a 10-4 head-to-head lead after once trailing 1-4. It was his ninth straight win over the German star.
Now, all eyes turn to Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome next week, where Sinner has a chance to complete the rare Career Golden Masters by winning the only Masters 1000 title missing from his collection. Only Novak Djokovic has achieved that feat before.
In Madrid, however, the story belonged to one man. Jannik Sinner did not just win, he ruled, he dazzled, and he reminded the tennis world that a new emperor now sits on the throne.
