Ghana International School (GIS) and Coral Reef Innovation Africa (CRIA) have signed a transformative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to design and implement the GIS–Coral Reef Innovation Center of Excellence (COE), a future-focused hub that will redefine how artificial intelligence, digital skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation leadership are integrated into education.

The five-year strategic collaboration brings together GIS’s leadership in world-class education and CRIA’s pan-African expertise in innovation strategy and future-ready learning ecosystems to equip students, educators, parents, alumni, and the wider community with the competencies required to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

At the heart of the partnership is a phased implementation model that will introduce advanced AI and digital skills programmes for students, deliver Educator 4.0 training, strengthen innovation awareness at the governance level, and launch a nationally inclusive entrepreneurship hackathon that connects learners to real-world business challenges.

The initiative will also culminate in the commissioning of a dedicated Innovation Lab for Technology and Entrepreneurship and the development of an open-source replication toolkit for adoption by schools across Africa.

Speaking on the significance of the collaboration, Richard Osei-Anim, CEO of Coral Reef Innovation Africa, described the agreement as a systems-level intervention in the future of learning.

We are not introducing a programme; we are installing a future-ready operating system for learning. Africas competitiveness will be determined in its schools, and this Center of Excellence is where human capability for the innovation economy will be built.

For GIS, the partnership represents a bold step in its evolution from delivering excellent education to shaping the future of education itself.

Dr. Mary Ashun, CEO of Ghana International School, noted that the initiative aligns with the school’s long-term vision of remaining at the forefront of emerging trends and global best practice.

Our responsibility is not only to teach what is known, but to prepare our students for what has not yet been created. This Center of Excellence ensures that innovation is not an activity at GIS — it becomes our culture and a defining part of the learning experience.

Under the agreement, GIS will provide facilities, infrastructure, and institutional leadership for stakeholder engagement, while CRIA will lead programme design, curriculum development, training delivery, sustainability strategy, and the cultivation of global partnerships.

All jointly developed intellectual property will be co-owned, ensuring long-term value creation and responsible scaling of the model beyond GIS through mutual agreement.

Beyond institutional impact, the partnership is expected to contribute to national and continental development by creating a scalable model for innovation-driven education, strengthening industry–education linkages, and expanding access to future-ready learning pathways for underserved communities through joint fundraising efforts.

The GIS–Coral Reef Innovation Center of Excellence transcends traditional education, serving as a hub for technology, creativity, and practical problem-solving. This partnership builds a forward-looking learning ecosystem, preparing students not just to participate in, but to define the future of work and empower tomorrow’s leaders today.
