Ghana’s Football Association has appointed seasoned Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars head coach, entrusting the 73-year-old with salvaging their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The move follows Otto Addo’s sacking after four straight friendly defeats that exposed tactical disarray just months from the North American showdown.
Queiroz edged out rivals like Paulo Bento and Fernando Santos, bringing his pedigree from Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran to restore structure and belief. With preparations stalled, his first mission demands rapid team stabilization amid a daunting Group L featuring England, Croatia, and Panama.
The Black Stars open against Panama on June 17 at Toronto’s BMO Field, followed by England in Boston on June 23, then Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27. Ghana craves revenge over their 2022 group exit, but time cruelly shortens Queiroz’s runway.
