Minister for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has dismissed calls for executive interference in the judiciary, insisting the state will not manipulate the courts to fast-track prosecutions under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.
Speaking on Joy News PM express show on March 11 2026, the legislator stated that government will not influence the court for political gains although it is committed to fighting corruption
“We used to accuse the NPP of manipulating the judiciary. We used to say that the NPP did not allow for an independent judiciary. It is not the submission of the individuals saying this, I would imagine that we should manipulate the judiciary to achieve certain political things that government cannot do.”
This comes on the back of criticisms from certain individuals including former Auditor General Daniel Domelovo questioning the speed of state institutions working on alleged corruption cases under the ORAL initiative.
Mr Kwakye Fosu added that since being sworn into office in February 2025, the Attorney General Justice Dr. Dominic Ayine has overseen a surge in active case reviews by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). As of early 2026, the office is actively scrutinizing 27 dockets and an additional 40 cases involving suspected financial irregularities and corruption.
The legislator also indicated that government is working on reforms to quicken the process of holding public purse looters accountable, however judgement is not in their hands
“Government has tried to find ways around it so, for instance, cabinet has approved the reintroduction of the tribunal system, which, in any event, is in the Constitution. But as for the fact that government can dictate the pace of cases being handled by a court or a judge, that one is beyond its capacity.”
