Residents of Garu Township in the Upper East Region are expressing frustration over persistent power outages affecting the area. Persistent power outages have residents fuming, with businesses suffering and daily life disrupted. Traders are scrambling for alternatives to serve customers, as the situation worsens by the week.

“These days, we struggle in the night before we can sleep due to the heat. It is always low current and we can’t get cold water to drink. So the situation is really disturbing and NEDCo must do something about it.” Kombat Cecilia, a carpets seller told GBCNews.
Garu Township’s evening scene is a shadow of its former self. By 6pm, the bustling streets fall quiet, victims of unreliable electricity. Low voltage and daily power cuts have become the norm, leaving residents frustrated and businesses struggling.

“For five days today, we don’t have lights. Yesterday, I removed my Vitamilk drinks and distribute because, with this heat it will just spoil. I sell ice kenkey and wheat drinks. I had to dash it out to people.” Hawawu Razak narrated.
Some chemical shop operators have reported that the darkness at sunset makes it difficult for them to conveniently attend to customers. According to them, the situation makes it difficult to properly identify medicines and safely serve clients.

The current weather in Garu is hot, but business is cooling off – literally. Traders are frowning as power cuts dash their hopes of chilling drinks and sachet water, leaving customers very uncomfortable in the sweltering heat.
Residents are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to urgently address the situation, saying the continuous outages are affecting livelihoods and slowing economic activity in the township.
