‎Minority Leader and Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on Ghanaian youth to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies as essential tools for 21st-century leadership

‎Speaking at the “Beyond The Degree Conference 2026” organized by the University of Education, Winneba Students’ Representative Council (SRC) on the theme “Developing Competent Leaders for a Changing World”, Afenyo-Markin highlighted that traditional academic knowledge alone is no longer enough to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.

‎“One of the most transformative developments shaping our world today is artificial intelligence,” he said. “What was once the imagination of scientists is now a powerful force influencing how societies function—across healthcare, finance, agriculture, transportation, and education.”

‎Afenyo-Markin noted that AI and digital innovation present both opportunities and responsibilities for young leaders. “For the youth of Ghana, technology is not just a tool—it is the future of work and leadership. Success in the coming decades will require digital literacy, creativity, technological adaptability, and problem-solving skills,” he said.

‎He emphasized that technology-driven entrepreneurship is reshaping industries globally. “Innovators are already transforming sectors such as agriculture, financial services, health delivery, and education. Young leaders must seize these opportunities to create solutions that benefit society, while also shaping ethical frameworks that guide AI responsibly,” Afenyo-Markin added.

‎Using a real-life example, he recounted the story of a young graduate who, despite excelling academically, struggled because he lacked practical skills and technological adaptability. “This is a reminder that knowledge without the ability to navigate new tools and innovations will not prepare you for the challenges ahead,” he said.

‎He concluded by challenging students and the youth to embrace AI and digital technologies as instruments to drive governance, create opportunities, and lead national development. “The world is changing. The question is whether today’s youth are ready to lead effectively in a digital and AI-driven era,” Afenyo-Markin said.
