The Tema Presbytery of the Global Evangelical Church has called on the government to develop irrigation systems along the Volta Lake to support year-round farming, particularly in the production of tomatoes and onions.
The call was made at the 2026 Presbytery Representative Conference held at Hope Chapel in Sakumono Estates. It was under the theme, “Preach Christ and His Second Coming.”
Speaking at the event, the Tema Presbytery Chairman, Reverend Jedidiah Azumah, said the availability of water resources across the country presents a major opportunity for agricultural expansion if properly harnessed through irrigation.
He explained that many communities within the Volta enclave are already engaged in vegetable farming but largely depend on small-scale, self-funded irrigation methods.

According to him, “Government intervention with large-scale irrigation infrastructure would significantly boost production, create employment for the youth, and position Ghana to export produce to other countries.”
Rev. Azumah stressed that increased local production would also reduce the risks traders face when travelling to neighbouring countries, particularly Burkina Faso, to import vegetables—a situation he described as dangerous in light of recent incidents.
He further commended President John Dramani Mahama and the government for what he described as a firm stance on the LGBTQ+ issue.
On the spiritual front, Rev. Azumah urged pastors to prioritise intentional discipleship and the spiritual growth of their members. He encouraged ministers to institute regular discipleship classes and focus on nurturing believers to develop a deeper relationship with Christ.
He also advised ministers to rely on the Holy Spirit in their work, noting that while modern tools such as artificial intelligence can support preaching, true impact comes from spiritually inspired messages.

Delivering the keynote address, a Board Member of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Stephen Senyo Sapati, reminded ministers of their sacred responsibility to faithfully handle the Word of God and remain accountable to divine authority.
In a message based on the Second Epistle to Timothy 4:1–2, Dr Sapati emphasised the need for diligence, spiritual alertness, and unwavering commitment to the truth of Scripture.
He noted that “ministers must remain rooted in the Word of God and be prepared at all times to preach, correct, rebuke, and encourage with patience and sound doctrine.”
Dr Sapati called on church leaders and believers to remain faithful in their service to God as they anticipate the second coming of Christ.
The Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church, Right Reverend Samuel Dzomeku, commended the Tema Presbytery for its zeal and commitment to effective church planting, particularly in mobilising resources for the establishment of new congregations.
