Nigeria’s global music stars Wizkid, Asake, Tems and Burna Boy have secured nominations for the 2026 BET Awards, further highlighting the international rise of Afrobeats.
The nominations for the 2026 edition of the annual awards were announced on Tuesday, May 19, with several African artistes earning recognition across major categories.
Wizkid and Asake received a joint nomination in the Best Group category for their collaborative work.
Tems emerged as one of Africa’s standout nominees, earning three nominations: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, the BET Her Award for her song “First”, and the Viewer’s Choice Award for “Raindrop”, her collaboration with Dave.
Burna Boy was nominated in the Best Collaboration category for “WGFT”, his feature on Gunna’s song.
This year’s nominations are led by Cardi B, who received six nods. Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist follow with five nominations each.
The 2026 BET Awards will take place on Sunday, June 28, in Los Angeles and will be hosted by comedian Druski.
Nigerian artistes have enjoyed notable success at the BET Awards over the years. Wizkid is among Africa’s most decorated winners, while Burna Boy has claimed multiple honours in international categories.
Other Nigerian stars, including Davido, 2Baba, D’banj and Ice Prince, have also received BET recognition.
Most recently, Ayra Starr won the Best International Act award in 2025.
