A leading stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region, Lawyer Kwaku Antwi-Agyei, has pledged to spearhead a renewed unity drive aimed at restoring the party’s electoral dominance and reclaiming lost parliamentary seats in the 2028 general election.

The private legal practitioner, who is contesting for the position of Second Vice Chairman of the party in the region, made the commitment in an interview with GBC News, outlining a strategic vision anchored on grassroots revitalisation, internal cohesion and voter re-engagement.

Reflecting on the party’s disappointing performance in the 2024 polls, Antwi-Agyei identified voter apathy as a decisive factor that undermined the NPP’s fortunes, leading to the loss of 11 out of 12 parliamentary seats in the Bono Region to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Low enthusiasm and weak participation among our supporters significantly affected our performance,” he said. “We must confront that reality and rebuild from the ground up.”

Antwi-Agyei emphasised that reversing the party’s electoral decline would require deliberate and sustained efforts to reconnect with its grassroots base.

He assured party members that, if elected, he would work closely with regional executives and party structures to reinvigorate local engagement and restore confidence among supporters.

Despite the setback, he maintained that the Bono Region remains a traditional stronghold of the NPP, attributing the party’s losses not to a shift in loyalty, but to widespread disengagement during the election period.

“Many of our people have expressed regret about not participating in the last election,” he noted. “That tells us the support is still there; we simply need to reignite it.”

Central to his agenda, he said, would be fostering unity within the party, rebuilding trust among rank-and-file members and inspiring renewed enthusiasm across constituencies.

“Unity, discipline and grassroots mobilisation will be the pillars of our comeback,” Antwi-Agyei declared. “With a united front, we can reclaim what we have lost.”

His remarks come at a critical moment as the NPP in the Bono Region intensifies internal reorganisation efforts following its significant electoral setback.

Party leaders are increasingly focused on restructuring, healing internal divisions and positioning the party for a stronger, more coordinated campaign ahead of the 2028 general election.

For Antwi-Agyei, the path forward is clear: restore belief, rebuild structures and reawaken the spirit of participation that once defined the party’s dominance in the region.
