The water shortage experienced in some parts of Cape Coast and Elmina for about a month now, has been attributed to galamsey activities on the Pra River, close to the Sekyere Heman water treatment plant.

Two of the three pumps at the plant that supplies water to parts of Cape Coast and Elmina have been affected and destroyed.

Over the weekend, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah and officials from the Ghana Water Company visited the facility to ascertain the extent of damage caused and directed that a taskforce be put together to protect the water body.

Meanwhile, the Chief Manager of Ghana Water Company in charge of the Central Region, Ing. Emmanuel Opoku, says the pumps are being replaced to serve the people.
