The Wa Municipal Assembly together with it partners in environmental health sector is expected to pass sanitation by-laws soon to crack down on recalcitrant individuals.

The move will among other things facilitate the prosecution of the house owners and landlords who do not have household toilets.

The Upper West Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Environment Health Service Agambire Inusah said it is time people are punished for the harm they cause the environment and other individuals by being unsanitary.

He was speaking at the launch of a sanitation campaign spearheaded by the Wa Area Church of Pentecost and Zoomlion Ghana.

The Sanitation Campaign forms part of the Church of Pentecost’s five year ‘Community Transformation’ program.

The campaign is a part of the Church’s social responsibility of helping government achieve its aim of  making  the country a clean one while ‘repossessing the nation’ and imbibing in the people the fear and wisdom of God.

The Upper West Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Environment Health Service Agambire Inusah said due to the unsanitary nature of the various communities, malaria continues to top in the various hospitals.

The Wa Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Reverend Robert Andoh said it was unfortunate that government continued to pay agencies to clean yet some persons also continued their indiscriminate littering causing the state to spend more money, money that could have been used for other purposes.

He expressed disgust about the continuous practice of open defecation.

The launch of the campaign was attended by staff of Zoomlion who along with the church members engaged in a cleanup through parts of the Wa township.
