Fourteen Burkinabe soldiers have been killed after suspected militants ambushed them in the northern part of the country.

The attack happened in Oudalan province, near the borders with Mali and Niger.

The Defence Ministry says security forces have been deployed to the area to track down the perpetrators.

President Roch Kaboré has suspended his campaigns for 48 hours in honour of the dead soldiers.

Burkina Faso is set to hold Presidential election on the 22 of this month.

President Kaboré has promised peace if re-elected and urged the opposition not to use terrorism as a campaign tool.
