Ghana has undoubtedly achieved a lot in terms of poverty reduction but there is still growing incidence of inequalities especially in the northern part of the country. The Ghanaian Times nevertheless lauds the pro-poor policy initiatives and encourages government to continue with efforts to uplift the rest of the population wallowing in extreme poverty. It notes that as the country has signed on to the Sustainable Development Goals to eradicate poverty in all manifestation and ensure inclusive society, it behooves government to continue to promote inclusive growth and prosperity for all, particularly for the poorest of the poor.

The Daily Graphic discusses the menace of vigilantism in some of the major political parties. The paper says vigilante groups pose a threat to national security whenever they have been allowed to blossom. In Ghana, these political vigilantes have been involved in acts of lawlessness, resulting usually from a sense of entitlement and frustration as evidenced in the shameful acts of such groups in the past months. The paper urges political parties to recognise the fact that their very existence depends on the country having a peaceful political environment where the people can go about their activities without any fear of intimidation.

The Daily Heritage calls for a more aggressive way of curbing the menace of water pollution which has become a big challenge to public health. The paper is worried about the indiscriminate disposal of domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural waste into water bodies. Another concern is the deliberate destruction of the environment through illegal mining. It has been predicted by researchers that if care is not taken, access to potable water will be a big challenge in the near future because of the rate at which water bodies are being destroyed. The paper therefore calls for strict enforcement of laws, adequate resourcing of the supervising agencies and arresting perpetrators to face the full rigours of the law.
