The Daily Graphic describes as surprising and shocking the latest World Bank Human Capital Index report which ranked Ghana as the last but one country in the world in terms of hormonised test scores of children from Basic to Secondary Schools. It says in spite of the numerous social interventions including the School Feeding Programme which has increased enrolment substantially  over the last decade, not much seems to be coming out of those efforts. The paper urges government to take the report in good faith and allow it to  serve as a learning curve for major reforms. The Graphic notes that these reports are normally rubbished on political grounds but for the sake of the children, who are  the future leaders, there is the need for all to help government turn this unfortunate situation around by engaging the right calibre of people to rethink how things are done at the basic school level.

The Ghanaian Times expresses concerns about reports of an eminent outbreak of cholera in Accra. It says the Ghana Health Service advice to residents is timely as it will enable the public take precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of the disease. The Times  says the country already has a sordid history of cholera outbreak which has almost become perennial. It says to avoid  repetition of what the country experienced in the past, there is the need for all to contribute towards the process and the authorities to strengthen the early warning surveillance and  monitor the situation.
