The Ghanaian Times says Ghana has lost a great poet and ‘literary giant’ of all time, Professor Atukwei Okai. The Times, says the distinguished poet whose poems are rooted in oral tradition, mentored many young people, including many who are now well known in their fields of endeavour. The paper recommends that his name be appropriately immortalised with a monument in recognition of his great achievements and also to serve as an inspiration to others. It urges government to work towards the development of the literary industry as he always desire.
Meanwhile, the Daily Graphic believes that our period of grief as a nation should also be used as a period of introspection. We should all ask ourselves how we will want to be remembered when we are gone and whether whatever we are doing is for the greater good of the nation Ghana or it is to achieve selfish ends. The paper urges all to purposefully do only things that will be of benefit to the whole country.
