The Daily Graphic applauds Team Ghana’s gallant display at the 2019 African Games. Rose Amoanimaa picked up Ghana’s first gold medal before the four by hundred team caused a major upset by beating Nigeria and South Africa to win another gold medal. Team Ghana’s medal haul was increased to 12 by performances in weightlifting and other events. The Graphic says it now behoves the authorities to ensure that the athletes who have shown promise are given the needed support to further develop into world class athletes.
The Ghanaian Times condemns recent attacks on the police describing them as an act of barbaric demonstration of cowardice by the assailants. This comes in the wake of the killing of two policemen with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Sergeant Micheal Gyamasi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal. It is for this reason that the paper fully supports the decision by the Minister for the Interior Ambrose Dery to arm officers who are on traffic duty. The paper calls on the police to “hold their fire” but be vigilant to avoid any more deaths. It urges the public to volunteer information which would lead to the arrest of all assailants.
