The month of October is breast cancer awareness month. It therefore comes as no surprise that the Ghanaian Times puts the spotlight on the disease in its editorial today. It says the disease which is the commonest cancer among women globally, must be addressed as a public health threat. It indicates that there is a need to intensify public education on breast cancer, especially in rural and peri-urban areas. The Ghanaian Times notes that there still remains a lot of superstitious perceptions surrounding the disease with women seeking healing and assistance from prayer camps, herbalists and deploying all sorts of self-medication rather than reporting to health facilities for early diagnosis and treatment. It calls on the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health to implement the right policies that would ensure effective treatment of Breast cancer.
The Daily Graphic says the launch of the National Plastic Action Partnership by government is a step in the right direction. The paper believes it is about time the country got serious in tackling the plastic waste menace once and for all. The Graphic, however, recommends that government should engage all stakeholders including the citizenry in implementing this initiative. This should be done by programmes aimed at explaining the initiative in detail to all partners to see its success.
