Today is World Environment Day (WED). A day set aside to highlight the fact that the protection and health of the environment is a major issue which affects the well-being of people and economic development throughout the world. The Paper sees an irony, that globally and even locally, many people, for selfish gains, destroy the environment and natural habitats with careless abandon. The paper is of the view that global warming, sustainable consumption, wildlife crime, among others, must be the concern of every human being on a daily basis. The Paper therefore urges all to stop the wanton destruction of the environment through damaging mining (galamsey), bush burning, littering of the environment with plastics, creating of slums and haphazard development with no consideration for green zones and to jealously guard and protect the earth.
