The Ghanaian Times writes on the dangers of ethnocentric comments.  According to the paper, ethnocentric comments have negative implications on society which causes hatred and disunity between members of a society and can lead to civil wars. The paper believes it is most dangerous when political figures make ethnocentric pronouncements which influence the population to vote and behave in a particular way. Making reference to a recent pronouncement by a group of politicians that security personnel have been deployed to the Volta region to prevent them from participating in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise, the paper frowns on the spread of false news and advises Ghanaians not to entertain any ethnocentric comments that will bring disunity in the country.

The Daily Graphic believes that the Commemoration of World Day to Combat Desertification and Draught observed every June 17 by the UN is very important for Ghana.  This is because the country is not exempted from the fast advancing desert.  It says unfortunately in Ghana, the day passed without any form of celebration or re-awakening of the consciousness of Ghanaians to underscore the importance of reforestation and the dangers of desertification.  The paper says much as it commends successive governments for instituting afforestation programmes to replace the depleted tree stock,  efforts must be made to implement legislation against illegal tree felling. The paper is, therefore, urging government to apply severe sanctions against anybody desecrating the remaining of the county’s forest to keep the desert at bay.
