The Daily Graphic welcomes the introduction of the new National Mortgage and Housing Finance Initiative being piloted by government to effectively reduce interest rates on mortgages in the country. This is because the provision of accommodation has been a challenge for governments all over the world including Ghana where there is a shortfall in housing, allowing many landlords to freely flaunt the Rent Act. The paper says the new scheme will offer mortgages at about 10 percent per annum down from the previous rate of about 28 percent on the average. It will also enable home buyers to live in them right from the start without any deposit with their rent counting as payments for the purchase.

The Ghanaian Times gives thumbs up to farmers and fishers as they celebrate National Farmers Day. The paper says as a country, Ghana must at least always remember those for whose efforts the day was instituted and those who had that wisdom to put in place the annual event, particularly former president Jerry John Rawlings. It says, as the then Chairman of the People’s National Defence Council, he  inspired Ghanaians to defeat the 1983 famine, and eventually the country weathered the hunger and produced food in abundance from 1984 till now. According to the paper, one great thing Farmers Day has given the country is the high respect accorded agriculture that has engendered interest in farming, both crop and animal, as well as related businesses.
