The Daily Graphic urges government not to relent in the provision of reliable power but put in more effort to attract local companies into the power generation sector. The paper believes that adequate power generation is essential for the growth of the economy, besides industries require electricity to thrive. It is for this reason that Akosombo, Bui and the hydroelectric dams were built. The paper acknowledges the contribution of the Akosombo dam over the years in Ghana’s economic growth. The Graphic says power generation is highly capital and it is evident government cannot bear the cost alone hence the involvement of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The paper however says the worry expressed by the Volta River Authority over the dominance of the power generation sector by foreign companies cannot be overlooked. The paper believes power supply is a national security issue making it important for  government to bring more local IPPs on board as well as take charge of a greater part of the power generation to avoid problems should these foreign IPPs stop aiding power generation.

Writing under the heading, “What is in store for Ghana’s democratic future,” The Ghanaian Times wonders how Ghana would chart a new course in its democratic journey. The paper acknowledges that with a President from one party and the Speaker of parliament from another, the current political dispensation presents a new challenge to the country. The paper believes the leadership roles that have been shared among the governing party, opposition and independent members in the legislature would go a long way to address some of the political deficiencies such as the ‘winner-takes-all’ phenomenon. The paper therefore calls for collaboration and consensus building among the Executive and Legislature to implement policies that champion the course of development.
