The Ghanaian Times discusses the Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s visit to the New Times Corporation and issues that emanated. The paper highlights the Minister’s advice to the Corporation to chart a path in the digital and online space for it to survive the fast-evolving and increasingly-competitive media landscape. According to the Times, although it cannot speak for the sector minister, it is of the belief that his advice does not go to the New Times Corporation alone but all other media houses as well. It says though, currently, it sounds very strange to learn that there is a media house that does not rely on digital facilities, it is possible that some media channels are sluggish and also irresponsible in the use of such facilities. To the Times, any aggressive media outlet should know that social media and online portals are sources of news that cannot be discounted.
The Daily Graphic believes that ensuring Accra and other cities in the country are clean is not the preserve of any specially assigned people but everyone’s responsibility. The paper however, finds it disturbing as alluded to by the President of the Environmental Service Providers Association, Joseph Siaw Agyepong at the launch of a national sanitation awareness campaign that people litter because they are of the view that it is the duty of others to clean up the mess. It says the country will never be clean if people continue to hold the view that they will litter for others to clean up. It is for this reason that the Graphic believes in the carrot and stick approach as espoused by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey when he warned that the assemblies would not hesitate to impose heavy fines on citizens who cultivate the habit of dumping refuse into gutters and drains.
