Daddy Lumba‘s final funeral rites held in Kumasi

Burial rites for the late highlife superstar, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, is taking place today, December 13, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The remains of the musician are lying in state in a wine-coloured casket, with a veil covering his face, under tight police protection.

The Heroes’ Park, located at the forecourt of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium where the rites are being performed, has attracted a large crowd of mourners, including members of the bereaved family, politicians and musicians.

Present at the pre-burial rites are the head of the bereaved family, Opanin Kofi Owusu, one of Daddy Lumba’s surviving spouses, Priscilla Ofori, affectionately known as Odo Broni, his children and the Abusuapanin.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, led a government delegation, which included the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) was also represented by a delegation led by its Ashanti Regional Organiser, Dr Francis Adomako.

Veteran musician Nana Acheampong, a former collaborator of Daddy Lumba, was among the first popular artistes to perform, rendering some of his own songs as well as those of the late musician.

Tributes have been read by members of the bereaved family, the children and staff of DL FM.

Security has been heightened at the venue, with police personnel led by the Regional Police Commander deployed to ensure the safety of mourners and protect property.
