Ghanaian singer Epixode has revealed that he received threats after releasing his song ‘Wahala Dey’, leading him to remove it from his playlist.
He made this known while speaking about the impact of his music ‘Choboi’ and how it has gained recognition by receiving an award at the Ghana Telecel Awards, which happened recently in Accra, on the GTV Breakfast Show.
“During the times of production, I didn’t have in mind that it was going to go this far. I knew it was going to add up to the voice of the people fighting and campaigning against the ‘Galamsey’ issue. I was not looking or trying to produce a song for awards,” he said.
During the discussion, he opened up about some of the challenges he faced in producing music that voices out frustration to bring about change in society, and how he has moved on to produce more impactful music despite those challenges, emphasizing ‘Wahala Dey’, one of his songs that brought him threats.
“This is not going to be the last time. I think even this is not the biggest. ‘Wahala Dey’ was one of the biggest, regardless of the threat that I got behind the scenes, it didn’t stop. I’m still here with Choboi,” he said.
According to him, it can be very challenging to produce music that addresses societal issues, but he chooses to do so because he is passionate about societal change and wants to use his creativity in music to project those issues.
“It’s a very lonely and scary road when you decide sometimes not to do songs for parties but rather tackle some of these issues,” he mentioned.
He expressed his gratitude to Telecel Ghana Music and his fans for supporting his music and helping it gain recognition, which ultimately earned him an award.
