Entertainment Journalist and a Presenter on GBC’s Life Style Television, Nana Ama Gyapong has added her voice to calls to event organizers and stakeholders to consider the number of people that can fit into a particular area before selling tickets to avoid overcrowding.
She made this point while speaking with Valerie Danso on the GTV’s Breakfast Show, while reviewing some of the Entertainment hits during December 2022.
”Selling out a place for a concert should not be a problem until the area cannot contain the crowd anymore because it is full to capacity”, according to Nana Ama Gyapong.
Proper ventilation should be considered to prevent people from suffocating. Again, exit points at these events should be many to allow free flow if anyone wants to leave in the middle of the event.
These issues came to light, on the back of Day 2 of Afro Nation Ghana 2022, which was supposed to climax the Afrobeats Festival in Accra, but ended abruptly on Friday night due to safety concerns.
A statement released by the organizers said the decision was necessitated after Security Personnel at the gates were overwhelmed by teeming crowds attempting to force their way into the venue, many of them without tickets.
Furthermore, injuries were reported and the audience demanded for a refund as well.
Nana Ama suggested ticket prices should be reduced to accommodate more people if possible.
”In terms of security, I believe that proper education should be given to people who like to attend these concerts in order to detect a potential thief and to avoid situations of attacks or injuries in a bid to have fun”, Nana Ama concluded.
