Renowned Ghanaian artiste, Okyeame Kwame, has called on organizers of music awards to recognize the efforts of Highlife artistes by awarding them a sum of 100,000 cedis.

Speaking in a virtual conversation with Ghana Universities Journal, Okyeame Kwame noted that high-life music is one of the most difficult music genres and most musicians shy away from doing it.

According to Okyeame Kwame, Highlife music is more difficult and more musical, requiring a level of sophistication that most musicians find challenging.

However, he lamented that the genre has been undermined by an audience who are not sophisticated enough to appreciate it.

He further stated that there is a need for more artistes like Akwaboah, Kuami Eugene, Kidi, and Kwabena Kwabena to maintain the standard set by the pacesetters.

Highlife music, he added, defines Ghanaians and depicts their culture and way of life.

Okyeame Kwame called on organizers of music awards to recognize the efforts of high-life artistes by awarding the winner of that category with a sum of 100,000 cedis.

This will not only encourage more artists to embrace the genre but also help to preserve Ghanaian culture and identity.
