Veteran Broadcaster Tommy Annan-Forson has disclosed that if he wasn’t a Radio Broadcaster, he would have been a Mechanic.

Speaking on the GTV’s Breakfast Show, the Ace Broadcaster said growing up he started learning how to be a mechanic because as a young person, he liked to tear things apart and put them back together.

According to him, his journey into Broadcasting was unplanned.

“God is the one who chooses our destiny for us. In as much as you have plans to do something, that is not God’s plan, if he says do this and your instinct tells you that, this is where you should go, this is where you should go do, that’s perhaps where you will be successful and that’s what I did,” he noted.

The Award-Winning Broadcaster said the common myth about Broadcasting is that people think once you become famous, it comes with fortunes and that’s untrue.

“I’ve always believed that the theory of ‘good name’ is better than riches. So, there’s that myth about once you’re famous you have everything at your Bank Hall. That’s not true,” he stated.

Mr. Annan-Forson said being a Broadcaster is a very tough job which involves a lot of pressure, hard work and determination and not as easy as people perceive it to be.

He recounted his journey working in the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation for 16 years and how back in the days, at times he had to walk from Laboni to GBC, even in the rain to be able to open the station at 5:30 am

The King of Country Music thanked Ghana Broadcasting Corporation for giving him the platform for 16 years to do what he loved doing most.

The respected Broadcaster added that people who want to go into Broadcasting don’t want to learn or people who are on the air today don’t want to learn.

“They don’t read, all they do is take stories from social media, take stories from television, and come up with their own versions. If you think you’re just going to come as a Broadcaster because you want a job, then you’ve got the whole scenario wrong. It won’t work for you. You’ve got to explore new avenues of how am I going to be different from this person?” Mr. Annan-Forson added.

Tommy Annan Forson is the King of Country Music, and Founder of Rabodef Radio Academy. He is a Multiple Award-Winning Broadcaster with a plethora of awards to his credit including Lifetime Achievement Award, 2013 DJ Awards and honoured by CITI FM at the maiden edition of The Eminence, for enrolling many young people into the media fraternity.
