After a series of interesting auditions and a boot camp session, Season 8 of music reality show MTN Hitmaker will start on Tuesday, October 29 with the first live show at the National Theatre.

This year, over 3,000 entries were sent in and the number was pruned down to 27 who made it to the boot camp. The boot camp, which was held over four days, came off at the Holy Trinity Spa and Health Farms.

The contestants were taken through a personal branding session, communicative skills and the power of the voice in the music industry. They were also educated on the basics of songwriting, music production as well as the business of music.

Project managers of MTN Hitmaker from MTN Ghana also took the contestants through the Dos and Don’ts of the competition.

At the end of the camping session, the final 12 contestants; Nessa, Qwesi Ishe, Sinam, Singer P, Derrick Adjei, Jeremy, Kofi Pages, Kojo Karl, Lasmid, Mawuly, Mimi and Ali Baba were selected to battle it out to win the ultimate prize of GH¢ 100,000 recording contract.

One of the finalists, Derrick Adjei, who spoke to Graphic Showbiz, expressed his excitement at making it and promised to make good use of this opportunity.

“I have learnt a lot, I thought I knew all about music but after the boot camp, I now have a broader knowledge of what it takes to be a good artiste. We were taught a lot of things which I know will take me to higher heights.

“I also want to thank the judges and MTN most importantly for believing in me and giving me such an opportunity, I promise not to let them down,” he said.

Mimi, on the other hand, said she was ready for the competition. “I know this event is not child’s play so I’m ready to give it my all and get to the top. I want to thank my family and friends for encouraging me, I will not let them down,” she said.

Judges for Season 8 are singer Eazzy, Richie Mensah of Lynx Entertainment and Kaywa of Highly Spiritual Music. Mix Master Garzy, DJ Breezy and MOG Beatz will be the beat makers.

Dubbed: “Live Your Wildest Dream,” MTN Hitmaker 8 will be hosted by Medial General’s Giovani Caleb and Berla Mundi.
