Former hiplife artist, Yaw Siki, has opened up about one of the most difficult challenges he faced in leaving behind his old life as a secular musician: denying himself and the pleasures that came with his former lifestyle.
Speaking during an interview on the GTV Breakfast Show, Yaw Siki emphasized both the struggles and the importance of choosing a new path as a gospel musician, dedicated to following and preaching the teachings of Christ.
He shared a touching moment from his early days of transformation, when he was still new in his gospel journey and struggling financially. Despite these hardships, he turned down a lucrative opportunity that would have pulled him back into his old life.
“I remember when I transformed fresh following the Lord Jesus and on waiting, some peeps called and they wanted me on a song and on a show but I had to deny myself that meanwhile I had nothing on me,” he said.
Yaw Siki explained that his previous lifestyle was filled with fun and pleasure, and he was steadily achieving his dreams through it. However, he began to feel an overwhelming sense of emptiness, which eventually led to his spiritual awakening. The turning point came two years after releasing his popular track, Wop3 Dodo.
“Initially, it was fun, pleasurable, and I was achieving the dream, but then I became empty while there. Two years after ‘Wop3 Dodo’, I became so empty in my room, there was no joy, and in that emptiness, there that small voice, leading or edging or inspiring me to come to the Lord and to serve the Lord,” he recounted.
When asked if he ever misses his old ways, Yaw Siki gave a firm response: “Not at all,” showing his commitment to his newfound gospel lifestyle.
