Ever noticed your nails looked like they had a shallow depression on them?
Or on touching your nails you felt a slight unevenness on its surface?

It could probably be nothing and hence no cause for alarm, but it could also be
a symptom of an underlying illness for which you should consult your doctor.

The state of your nails tell a lot about your health. Any change in them could be due to the kind of diet you’re on, a hormonal imbalance,an injury or an illness hence, should be treated with the utmost of importance.

Some well known causes of dented nails are: Beau’s lines: which are deep grooved lines that run from side to side on the fingernail or toenail which may look like indentations or ridges in the nail plate. It was first described in 1846 by a french physician Joseph Honoré Simon Beau after whom the condition is named.

Nail Pitting: nail pitting, which is often found in people with psoriasis, although it could
also be a sign of other conditions is when small depressions appear on the surface of the nails. The depressions could be shallow or deep. It commonly affects the finger nails as compared to the toe nails.

Vitamin Deficiency: A deficiency in protein, calcium, zinc, or vitamin A, can sometimes be realized by ridges in your fingernails. A severe Zinc deficiency especially, has been proposed by researchers to be a cause of Beau’s lines.
