COVID-19: Ghana’s restrictions to be eased in phases starting with religious gatherings

President Akufo-Addo has reviewed the ban on social gatherings which were imposed as part of measures to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease.

A total of 100 people can now attend church services and mosques for prayers with strict adherence to social distancing protocols during worship.

Veronica buckets and hand sanitizers are also to be provided for congregants to wash their hands.

Wearing of face mask during service is compulsory and all services are to last for a maximum of one hour.

In a televised address last night to update the nation on measures to stem the spread of COVID-19, President Akufo-Addo urged worshipers to use the first day of worship as Thanksgiving for  God’s guidance in the fight against COVID-19.

Under the new directives, church services and Muslim prayers can take place with 100 congregants at a time and for only one hour.

President Akufo-Addo also noted that non-contact sporting activities can resume as football remains close.

He clarified that EC and the NIA were not covered under the Imposition of restrictions bill. Restaurants can now resume sit in but night clubs and bars remain close.
