The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the recent hike in the prices of petroleum products at the pumps as “unacceptable”,  calling on government to immediately scrap the recent increases in the Energy Sector Levies.

A statement signed by the National Communication Officer of the Party, Sammy Gyamfi, said government has raked in more revenue from the petroleum sector than any other government, so the continuous increase in fuel prices is unacceptable.

The statement said the NPP-government in 2017 was able to raise 2.3 billion and 4.5 billion in 2018 all in oil revenue with a projected 6 billion for 2019, all as a result of the huge investments made by the erstwhile NDC administration.

The statement concluded that a government that truly cares about its people will not be increasing fuel prices at a time when the citizenry are already experiencing excruciating hardship.
