Bonwire, origin of Kente cloth now pale shadow of itself

After the flag of Ghana, one other symbol that so ably represents Ghana even on the international scene could be the Kente cloth. The woven material believed to have emanated from Bonwire, believed to be the capital and heartbeat of kente in Ghana. It is believed that many years ago, especially in the 17th century, a hunter came across a spider as it moved its web. He studied the way the web was being woven by the spider and encouraged the indigenes of the land to do same and they came out with a beautiful cloth. However, GBC’s Abdul Hayi Moomen visits Bonwire and reports that at the heartbeat of Kente weaving, the story is not so exciting.
