Business activities could possibly cause direct environmental impact when carried out within host communities and indirect environmental impact through supply chains.

Experts also say that, resource consumption and waste production can bring about excessive collateral damage on natural habitats. Some of these effects of industrial growth have already proven to be irreversible.

Addressing the Africa-Dubai Investment Summit, in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, on the topic “Nexus of trade and investment for Sustainable Development”, the Executive Director of EPA, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, urged business leaders to be mindful of the impact of their business activities on climate change.

“Businesses have a societal opportunity and responsibility to be proactive part of the solution to one of the biggest challenges to living generations. They should help lead the way in building a low carbon, climate-resilient economy that would enable people to thrive”.

He further extended invitation to the general investment community to visit Ghana and explore the numerous investment opportunities in the country.

On the sidelines of the summit in UAE organized by Leaders Without Borders Development Center, five Ghanaians including Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, received Excellence Awards in different categories, organized by Leaders Without Borders Development Center in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) city. Dr Kokofu was honoured with Excellence in Leadership Process award.

The other recipients are a Leadership and Business Strategy Consultant, Dr Victor Abbey, Mrs Eugenia Abeley Owusu who is General Manager for Business Development at Incept Architectural Consult, CEO of Tuger Group of Companies, Dr Samuel Twumasi and Ohemaa Yaa Serwaa-Kyerewa Awuah, CEO of Oyska Technical Institute.

A recipient of the award, Dr. Victor Abbey, CEO and Managing Partner of V5 Solutions Ltd and FV Global Consult stressed on the need for business owners to pay attention to the environment, social and corporate governance issues and subject critical business decisions to scientific business research.

The global pursuit of net-zero carbon emissions is a huge undertaking, and only possible with the help of businesses, Dr. Victor Abbey further added.

The summit which was held on the theme “The Future of Global Investment -Towards the Next 50 years” was graced by corporate executives, strategic investors, and diplomats from diverse industries across the globe.
